“It’s the journey that’s important, not the destination as we all have heard before. But the extended answer to all of this is: heal your past wounds, however acquired, and apply self-love. Then take all of that love/passion inside you and share it with others. Strive to express your courage and authenticity rather than spending all your time trying to impress others. Don’t be afraid of being vulnerable and for God’s sake,
have fun while you’re here!”

LIVING AN EXTRAORDINARY & AUTHENTIC LIFE

Ghary David Won

Despite being brought up in the traditional way of what was required of him, Ghary David Won, sees his life as a student of the human journey and a teacher to those who wish to listen. Preferring to take the road less travelled filled with detours and a lot of roadside distractions, Ghary had a formal education in business and later psychology. This required him to work in a suit and tie often, later giving it up for a pair of jeans and a polo shirt in following his bliss.

From happiness, to being homeless, his life has given him a uniquely fresh perspective on how to live our lives purposefully. Having studied spirituality for over 40 years and the field of death and dying for over 20 years, his take on these subjects is meant to help us awaken the true nature of increasing our abundance through discovering our real selves. His popular YouTube series called, The Hero’s Journey: A Conversation, features interviews with many remarkable and fascinating people around the world.

The Road Less Traveled

A Reflection by Ghary David Won

For many of my long-time friends with whom I’ve shared this journey, I’ve come to realize something. In retrospect, I think I’ve chosen what could be best described as “the road less traveled,” often taking detours along the way and usually stopping at most of the roadside distractions.

Like most of us, I struggled at times, which I later realized was because I wasn’t listening to that tiny voice inside—what some call intuition, others call God.

Keeping an open mind in making sense of everything helped me connect with the genius inside me—the part that had answers to questions that once stumped me.

I see a world absent of evil, only love, where our only task is to experience and express love fully, and to have fun while we’re here. We live in a world of separation and contrast until we transition back into Spirit. Having spent years as a hospice volunteer, hosting a non-grief death & dying discussion group, and interviewing many near-death patients, my views on this topic are more expansive than those I grew up with.

I believe life isn’t about accumulating things—because we can’t take anything with us. That tells me life must be about experiencing things and helping others do the same.

When we’re born, so is the ego—to help define our identity and place in this world. But the ego also separates us. It makes us compare, compete, and question our worth. It whispers, “Why does that person earn more than me?” or “Why am I not being loved the way I want to be?”

But I’ve learned this: we attract what we believe we deserve. If we feel unloved, depressed, or broke, how can we invite abundance in? We must shift how we see ourselves before anything can shift around us.
Living authentically means being honest about what brings you joy. It’s the core of the Hero’s Journey Joseph Campbell described—the path toward joyful passion and soulful expression.

Contrast—light and shadow, joy and sorrow—is not punishment. It’s direction. The pain you’ve endured may be the very reason you now feel called to help others heal.

Yes, the journey is the reward. But not everyone stays the course. And that’s okay. Some choose the safety of the ego; others choose the path of discovering who they really are. That is the art of living you.

“It is less about the “stuff” we wish for in our manifestation process. Rather, it is the resulting person we become that’s the key.

The Spirituality is Real.

From the very first page, this book grabbed me. The author describes so well the dilemma so many of us face to discover OUR truth what gives our personal life its true meaning and purpose. He correctly posits that our deepest purpose is to Love and support others. He realizes that through this means we are fulfilled abundantly. So, few people in this world truly understand that God IS Love although many parrot those words. The author talks about this and its manifestation with the ease of someone who knows it experientially. Experiencing God is the goal of every major religion’s deepest practitioners. Most fail to recognize that experiencing God can also happen outside of these religions. The author knows this and has refreshingly managed to simply skip dogma and go right to the Heart. He not only sees his own Heart, the heart of God, in its infinite dimensions, he articulates it easily and understandably thus communicating this seeing and knowing to the reader.

He also writes of some of his personal struggles in this life which gives the book multifaceted authenticity. However, he uses those struggles well as illustrations without dwelling on them. This book is clearly not self-focused. The author rather has valuable insights to share from those struggles. His desire to be of service to others is palpable. His skill in being helpful in the many situations he talks about brings a bright light that permeates this brilliant work. He offers ways to view every situation as an opportunity to grow. He educates us very well on the ways energy flows and manifests through all things. Just by reading this great book you will grow.

“I’m not living this life to impress anyone with my accomplishments nor with climbing the highest mountain. I’m just here to be Love and to help one other person feel the same for themselves.”
